Aña refers to the sacred Batá drums that have been ritually consecrated so that they are believed to carry spiritual force. When consecrated, the drum set itself is called Aña.
The Batá set consists of three hourglass-shaped drums:
- Iyá (mother drum)
- Itótele (middle drum)
- Okónkolo (small drum)
EGGUN (EGÚNGÚN) DRUMMING
Eggun (also spelled Egún or Egúngún) refers to the ancestral spirits.
In traditional Yoruba religion, Egúngún masquerade traditions exist in Nigeria and Benin.
In diaspora traditions such as Cuba, Eggun ceremonies are typically more intimate and less public than West African masquerades.

Palo -
Is an Afro-Caribbean spiritual tradition that developed in Cuba from the religious practices of Central African peoples, especially the Kongo (Bakongo) of present-day Congo and Angola.
It is often called simply Palo, and its practitioners may refer to it as Regla de Palo or Las Reglas Congas.
Palo is a nature-based, ancestral, and spirit-centered tradition focused on direct spiritual work through sacred forces found in nature.
